Qatari Emir arrives in Pakistan on 2-day visit

Islamabad, Jun 22 (IANS): Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrived in Pakistan on a two-day visit on Saturday.

He was accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising key ministers and senior officials. The Emir was visiting Pakistan after a break of over four years. He last toured Islamabad in March 2015, Dawn newspaper reported.

Al Thani was accorded a red carpet reception with Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan receiving him at the Nur Khan Airbase. He was also given a 21-gun salute and children presented bouquets to him, the report said.

The Qatari leader will hold talks with Khan and will also meet President Arif Alvi.

"The two sides will discuss ways and means of building a robust and mutually beneficial economic partnership. During the visit, Pakistan and Qatar will sign MoUs/agreements for enhanced bilateral cooperation in different areas," the Foreign Office had announced earlier.

In a post on Instagram, Khan had earlier claimed that the Qatari Emir would announce an investment of around $22 billion, which would be greater than the investment promised by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman earlier this year.
