Bhubaneswar, Jun 24: Over 1,000 schools will be soon closed on grounds of having below 10 students. This decision has been put into action in order to battle the shortage of teachers.

“Odisha government has decided to close 966 public schools that have below 10 students,” said Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Das.

In a report it was found that some schools were in session with only three students as well. This step is being taken because according to the government, it is technically impossible to provide teachers or better infrastructure when there is scarcity of teachers.

The teachers of the schools which will be closed, will be transferred to different schools in their vicinity. Likewise, the students will be transferred to different schools as well.

To promote the students to attend these new schools, governments are looking forward to paying them a conveyance allowance. The amount is said to range from Rs 3,000-Rs 6,000.
