Mangalore: Novice Nalin Kumar Kateel Humbles Old Horse Poojary

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, May 16: The recent political 'Betting' was hugely tilted in favour of the old horse of the Congress Party, Janardhan Poojary, as he was the favourite to win the Lok Sabha election, as per the calculations of the gamblers. But there was surprise in store for everyone, when the Lok Sabha result for Dakshina Kannada constituency was declared today. A totally new face, 42-year-old Nalin Kumar Kateel, BJP candidate, is set to enter the Lok Sabha for the first time.

Jubilation was apparent among the BJP workers all over the constituency, as the party candidate Nalin maintained a steady lead of over 30,000 for several rounds. At the end, it was a sweet victory for Nalin, who was declared the winner by a margin of over 40,000 votes.

For the BJP think tank however, the victory was not at all  surprising, as one of senior workers speaking to daijiworld said, "When we heard that Mangalore constituency registered record number of polling this time, we thought it augured well for Nailin, whose victory was cemented due to the huge voter turn out. Puttur and Sullia assembly constituencies, where the voting was over 80%, went in favour of the BJP".

"But our grass root level work was superior to that of the Congress, as Congress candidate was mostly concentrating on pleasing the minority to get their votes. This went against the Congress, and we worked hard at the base level. They are not easy votes, we have worked very hard for them," says a relaxed Nalin Kumar after the victory.

Nalin Kumar has thanked everyone who cast his or her vote for him, and assured them that he will work for the betterment of the constituency.

On the other hand, it is a setback for Poojary, as he loses Lok Sabha seat for the third time from Mangalore in his political career. In all probability, veteran Poojary who has an army of admirers in the constituency will never be fighting another Lok Sabha election.

If you guys want to have the real picture of Mr.Janardhan poojary, Plz watch this Video on youube. His arrogance stands out. He won his first Election during the time of Mrs.Indira Gandhi.Even if a Lamp Post was given a Ticket(Literally Speaking)would have won the elections by the charisma of Mrs.Gandhi.He hasn''t done anything Great in his life except maybe help in Remodling Kudroli Temple for his own fake pride. And he boasts of being secular, when he virtually falls at the feet of Muslims for vote banks.

Mr Guru Baliga, There is nothing wrong if the BJP wins in Mangalore. One must respect the verdict of the people. I was only answering somebody''s question on why the BJP won. Mr Nalin Kumar is now our representative and we hope he works towards building bridges of peace and working for the betterment of the DK constituency.

As regards to your other questions, we as a community do not need any appeasement from the government or money. We too pay our taxes as you do. We are against the RSS stand on creating fear amongst the majority commun ity by distorting our religion and spreading lies only to gain power.India was ruled by the muslims for many many years and many of these rulers were tyrants and forcibly tried to convert the population, yet even today 85% of India is still hindu.

That was in the past. In today''s world there is literacy, modernity and development and we live in a secular democracy, where the bogey of conversions created by the RSS does not exist. Yet they continue to use the conversion card simply to marginalize the minorities and gain votes. That is wrong. I am totally against anybody who bursts crackers when Pakistan wins. Such people do not deserve to be called Indians and should not live here. India is only for patriotic Indians who love their country, but we cannot support the RSS philosophy which says that India is only for hindus.

Please remember that India belongs to all Indians irrespective of their caste, creed or religious beliefs, and sooner the RSS accepts this fact, the better.

Mr Jude.. Why cant you see the hatred spread by the congress in Mangalore from past 50 years? Whats wrong if BJP candidate wins the election? Managlore was dominated by congress most of the time after independence, what have they done to Mangalore? Whats wrong if RSS wants to protect hinduism? Why always tax payers money should go to minorities, is there any special law in india which states minorities should get special rights, why dont you speak about equailty on these grounds?

Where were you when hindus were targeted in mangalore, why didnt I read your messages in the newspapers at that time? I was born in mangalore, I stay in carstreet.. why few people from minorities burst crackers when pakistan wins a cricket match...

Folks, I hear a lot about Nalin''s education that people and unhappy about. What is the minimum qualification for one to get into politics. If there was a minimum then would democracy be true? The Gandhi family is touted for what? Nepotism ?. Is democracy a family run business. I think even a n illiterate should be able to contest, it is the people who ultimately vote.

So if Nalin is ahead great. We need to give him some time to see how he handles this. Janardhana Poojari is a qualified and capable man, no two ways about it, but he did not make it yet another time, so the magic is gone. I believe we have to give change some time. We have had enough of Congress and their minority wooing tactics. Let us see what the so called bad BJP can do.

Congratulating Mr Nalin at his election victory is good indeed. But I seriously doubt whether at all he will read this column, after all he is just SSLC finished( pass?). No doubt surely he will undertake the development projects in DK such as strengthening the RSS, help the Rama Sene and Sangha parivar to wage war against culture and the minority Christians.

I heard one of his speech which was excellent. I think any party either bjp or congress should give more importance for developments rather than religion or caste. What do you say on this? I think mangalore needs a candidate like Ullal Srinvas Mallya who was done a lot for Mangalore. He is the person who is responsible for Mangalore port, airport, mangalore ullal bridge etc.

Mr Rajesh Udipi, You are living in a fool''s paradise. The sooner you come out of it the better. The vast majority of India are not stupid to have opted for the congress and the UPA. They were intelligent enough to see through the lies spread by the BJP and its communal henchmen. The victory of the BJP in the coastal belt is due to polarization and nothing else.

The RSS created a minority phobia amongst the majority community. Yet it is the people''s mandate and all should except it. I hope Nalin Kumar, Gowda and Anant Kumar fulfil the aspirations of the people from the coastal belt, specially in bringing back religious harmony, peace and improving infrastructure.Just remember that the people have chosen Italy over Nagpur. Proponents of hindutva should realise that according to hindu dharma a daughter-in-law becomes a member of the family and enjoys a daughter''s status after marriage.

Sonia Gandhi did not sneak into India as an alien, but as a daughter-in-law of the Gandhi family, so the regular harping about her Italian roots has become very stale now. The more you talk about it, the better it will be for the congress as these results have shown.

We have been making blunders after blunders by going to back to communal feelings. The Sang Parivar has done a great damage to our State. It is unfortunate that Udupi Chikmagalur and Mangalore seats have been won by BJP. But I am glad that Congress gave a tough fight. It is time for Conngress to ensure that Vinay Kumar Sorake be given ticket for the next elections and to groom him as the leader. For Udupi, I feel that J P Hegde should continue his work and try to spread his influence across Udupi Chikmagalur region.

I was very sadden seing people comments here and english media over pub attack what happened is tragic...but its not bjp principle this is SRS which supported from congress..

I am very much relived from these results 1..we have a stable goverment now..no left or these small corupt party like bsp... 2.. people have rejected candidates/parties who try to get vote on basis of caste...laloo..and UP results is proof 4 it.. 3..Kateel...we want you do show that you will take care of every citizen of our constituency... Poojary though a good, non-currupt politician, hit the last nail on his political career. Now, the battle having won by Nalin, should work very hard to make mangalore a safe and peaceful place to live with. Sorry Mr. Poojary... You really deserve much better than this. But, hard luck. I expected UPA to come in the center as they had much more eligible and deseving leaders to lead our democracy compared to NDA. Their only problem is the Vote bank politics what they play to appease a section of sciety. Looking at all the events happning in Karnatake specially in DK past couple of months, and how the section of public criticised State Govt for each & evrything, critisising Majority community, writing blogs against BJP leaders, religious leaders al togather there was a indirect attemt to spoil the name of BJP & state govt.
