New Delhi, Jun 26: In her first parliament speech, the new elected Trinamool Congress MP, Mahua Moitra cautioned about the fascist ways that are taking over the country.

The Krishnagar MP who is a former investment banker, highlighted topics about dissent, religious freedom and media control. She said, “Only if you would open your eyes, you would see that there are signs everywhere, that this country is being torn apart.” Moitra also stated the beliefs of freedom fighter Maulana Azad and poets Ramdhari Singh Dinkar and Rahat Indori.

She continued to speak about the signs of a fascist rule and how India is progressing toward that path. Moitra, spoke about the seven signs with reference to a US holocaust memorial museum poster of 2017. The poster listed early signs of fascism and she discussed the same.

Firstly, she began with the ‘powerful and continuing nationalism that is searing into our national fabric'. “In a country where ministers cannot produce certificates to show they have graduated from college, you expect dispossessed poor people to show papers to show that they belong to this country,” Moitra questioned.

Moitra pointed to a sign which dealt with ‘resounding disdain for human rights that is permeating every level of government.’ It referred to the ever increasing crime in the country, especially the hate crimes and accused the lot who are encouraging these crime for their benefit.

The other sign dealt with ‘unimaginable subjugation and controlling mass media'. She then spoke about a sign that speaks about ‘obsession with national security and identification of enemies.’

Moitra underlined the interlaced subject of ‘religion and government’ and alluded the NRC and Citizenship Amendment Bill to state that there is only one community which is target of anti-immigration laws.

Moitra conculed by pointing out the most dangerous sign, ‘complete disdain for the intellectuals and the arts’ along with ‘suppression of all dissent'. Finally she spoke about a point where one party had spent nearly half of the Rs 60,000 crore in the recent elections. “There is an erosion of independence in our electoral system.”
