Spirituality in journalism will help uplifting society: Vaidya

New Delhi, Jun 30 (IANS) Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) joint General Secretary Manmohan Vaidya on Saturday asserted that spirituality in journalism will help in uplifting the society.

Addressing a function here at the India International Centre, Vaidya said, "Our culture accepts diversity. The basis of our life is spirituality and that is why despite having diversity we are one."

He said due to imperialism, we forget many words in our national language whose english versions we remember, but not the Hindi words.

Vaidya said the glossary of Hindi words is more meaningful than the western translations. He asserted that to respect our mother tongue, we must preserve our glossary, only then we can fight linguistic imperialism.

"The speciality of India is spirituality, which is not any particular religion. To accept all religions as same is the spirituality of India," Vaidya said, adding that that if we teach this in schools, the relations between people will become more strong.

"It will bring change in his character, the way in which he sees the country and its women," the RSS leader said, adding that journalists through their work have the power to bring this change.

The RSS leader further said that journalists are also part of the society and that "what sells will run" is not an example of ideal journalism.

"What is sellable will run is not a good example of ideal journalism. Journalists are also part of the society. If they think that the society is theirs, then upliftment of society will automatically get attached to their journalism," he added.

At the function, the RSS leader and Union MInister for Women and Child Development and Textiles Smriti Irani handed over the Dev Rishi Narad Patrakar Samaan to many journalists. The programme was organised by the Indraprastha Vishva Samvad Kendra.
