After criticism, senior Delhi Police officers hit roads

New Delhi, Jun 30 (IANS) Following repeated criticism over the law and order situation in the national capital, the Delhi Police conducted a "General Gasht" in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, with top officers out to inspect the situation.

According to the police, over 6,000 police personnel were deployed on over 600 picket checks to deter criminal activities.

"All senior officers, including the Commissioner of Police, Delhi inspected the deployment and alertness of the staff. The Commissioner of Police along with Special Commissioner, Law & Order, inspected the vulnerable stretches, including those which had recently reported crime, and assessed the possibility of enhancing police visibility to prevent recurrence of crime," said a release by Delhi Police's media cell on Saturday.

According to a senior police officer, the senior officers also identified the stretches which required rearrangement of deployment.

During the process, around 16,000 vehicles were checked, while nearly 3,000 persons were bound to keep peace, while 185 persons could face legal action.
