Dust storm, rain likely in Delhi-NCR soon

New Delhi, Jun 30 (IANS): The national capital and its adjoining areas are expected to witness dust storms along with strong winds and a short spell of rain in the coming days.

According to Skymet Weather, due to western disturbance, dust storms with strong winds and short spell of light rainfall activity, are expected over Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad during the coming four to five days.

Isolated places of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) may also witness light rain and thundershowers, it said.

"Towards the end of next week, southwest monsoon may finally mark its onset over the NCR, as a low-pressure area has formed over Bay of Bengal, which is intensifying," it said.

Meanwhile, dry and extremely hot weather conditions with isolated heat wave like conditions prevailed over Delhi and its adjoining areas of Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad during the last 24 hours.

The pollution levels over the NCR are increasing due to the mixing of dust particles.

"Since southwest monsoon is delayed over Delhi and the NCR, dry and hot weather conditions are expected to continue over the region. At present, a western disturbance is moving across northern parts of Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir region. Due to this, the day temperature of Delhi-NCR would be decreasing, whereas nights will remain warm," it added.

The maximum temperatures are likely to settle between 40 to 43 degrees Celsius and the minimum would hover between 30 to 33 degrees Celsius.
