CBI summons artist, bizman close to Trinamool in chit fund cases

Kolkata, Jul 2 (IANS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Bengali artist Subhaprasanna and businessman Sibaji Panja in connection with the chit fund scam cases, an official said on Tuesday.

While Subhaprasanna has been summoned in the multi-crore Saradha Chit Fund scam case on July 4, Panja has been summoned in connection with the Rose Valley probe on July 9.

Both of them are known to be close to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party Trinamool Congress.

They have been asked to appear before the sleuths at the agency's Kolkata office -- CGO Complex.

Panja, a businessman who also had a stake in film production, was interrogated by the CBI on June 20 regarding paintings purchased by Ponzi scam owners.

Subhaprasanna was questioned by the central agency back in 2014 for selling a non-operational TV channel to Saradha Chit Fund boss Sudipta Sen.
