Chennai, Jul 5 (IANS): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K.Palaniswami on Friday welcomed the Union Budget 2019-20 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as the one with progressive policies and programmes.
In a statement issued here, Palaniswami hoped the state would get sufficient allocation of funds for improvement of roads under the second phase of Bharatmala project.
Referring to Sitharaman's announcement on metro and suburban train services, Palaniswami requested the Central government to give its nod for the second phase of Chennai Metro Rail and for metro rail projects in Madurai and Coimbatore.
He said the Central government should implement proposals regarding changes in tax rates of power generators and supply of power to heavy consumers after getting the consensus of all the states.
Similarly, in the case of disinvestment in public sector undertakings (PSUs), Palaniswami said state government's consent should be taken.
