Mangaluru: PTA annual general meeting held at St Agnes PU College

Mangaluru, Jul 6: St Agnes Pre-University College conducted the Parent – Teachers’ Association (PTA) annual general meeting for the academic year 2019-20 on Friday July 5 in the college auditorium.

Dr Hima Urmila Shetty, trustee, Dr M V Shetty Group of Colleges, was the guest of honour.

In her address, chief guest, Dr Hima Urmila Shetty emphasized the need to be a constant learner through self – study. She urged institutions to foster creative and thinking skills so that the youth can become leaders. She rued the rote – learning that is prevalent in the present – day education system that ruins the logical and analytical skills of children. She concluded her speech by exhorting the parents to play a more active role in the lives of the children and the institution and thereby enrich society.



The programme began by seeking God’s blessings through a prayer song.

PTA vice president, Valentina Rodrigues, welcomed the gathering and Lovina Aranha had the privilege of introducing the chief guest.

Pramila DSouza, the PTA secretary, read the minutes of the meeting and Sr Norine DSouza A C, the principal briefed the audience about the activities of the association for the year 2018-19.

Jyothi Pinto, the treasurer, presented the audited statement of accounts and outlined the budget for the current academic year.

A parent of a former student Ananya Rai (2017-19) expressed his opinion about the college. He stated that the two years of pre-university education play a crucial role in the lives of students. He expressed pride in his daughter’s achievement. He commended the college for having played an extraordinary role in developing his daughter’s overall personality along with academics. Being in this college, he assured the parents that their children are in safe hands.

To make this occasion memorable, the students who excelled in the II PUC Board Examination 2019 were felicitated by the guest of honour, Dr Hima Urmila Shetty; joint secretary of St Agnes Group of Institutions Dr Sr Maria Roopa; principal Sr Norine DSouza A C and PTA vice president Valentina Rodrigues.

Fathima Suzna who met with a tragic accident also felicitated for her tremendous courage and hard work in achieving success in the board examination.

This was followed by elections of the new office bearers, which was conducted by Sr Norine DSouza A C, principal.

The meeting evoked a good response from the parents who turned up in large numbers.

The programme was compered by Shobha, department of Biology.

At the end of the event Savitha Rebello, PTA joint secretary, expressed her appreciation and thanked everyone for their support.
