Woman's chain snatched, cops file FIR of theft 2 days later

New Delhi, Jul 6 (IANS): An elderly woman was assaulted and her chain snatched by unidentified bike-borne assailants in Delhi's Krishna Nagar area but lax police officials filed an FIR of theft only two days later.

The Tuesday incident came to light when the CCTV footage from the camera of the victim's neighbour went viral on social media.

In the video, the woman - who is wearing a salwar kurta - can be seen trying to open the door of her house and just then a man gets down from a bike and pulls her dupatta hard, making the woman fall on the road.

Before she could get up, the assailants ran away with her chain. Apart from losing the chain, she also received many injuries.

To add to her woes, when she went to the police station to file a complaint the police officials did not cooperate.

Two days later, she visited the police station again with the CCTV footage and then an online FIR was filed for theft rather than for chain snatching.

Police have now registered a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code while also ordering a departmental inquiry against the lax cops.
