Snow leopard sighted in Uttarakhand's Gangotri National Park


Dehradun, Jul 7 (IANS): A snow leopard, an elusive wild cat, was recently spotted at the Gangotri National Park in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district, a top forest official said on Sunday.

A video of the snow leopard at Naga area in the park has also gone viral on social media. ITBP personnel, who were stationed in the area, shot the video where the snow leopard is seen crossing a bridge and climbing a rocky mountain.

This is a rare instance of a snow leopard seen in the Gangotri National Park, said Nandaballabh Sharma, Deputy Director of the Gangotri National Park.

"The ITBP personnel shared the video with us and we later shared it on social media," said Sharma.

Spread across an area of 2,390 sq kms, the Gangotri National Park is home to the snow leopard, Ibex, Tahr, pheasants and other rare species.
