Media Release

Canada, May 26: The 7th Family Social organized by the Mangalorean Association of Canada (MAC) on the 9th of May, 2009 was a remarkable demonstration of organization, pulsating music, loud applause and pure fun.  The band and DJ, Casual Encounter, led by the extremely talented Joyson D’Souza made the event memorable with their fantastic youthful music and singing.  The emcee, Neville D’Souza created an ambience of comfort with his repartee, jokes and skilful manipulation of the program.

The guests were ushered to well-organized seating arrangements by a team of youth volunteers.  The evening began with a short welcome and a music session by the band. Irrespective of age, the young and old swayed and danced while abandoning all inhibitions and indulging in pure pleasure and a stress-free evening. Dinner was catered by Swagath Banquet Hall and was a spectacular buffet of salads, vegetables, meat and dessert created to please all kinds of palates and fussy eaters.   After dinner, Maxim D’Mello, President of MAC welcomed all the guests and appreciated their participation in this family event.  He praised the efforts of the Executive Committee in pioneering the first Konkani Stations of the Cross and Konkani mass and introduced other events that will be organized throughout the year.  He also thanked the sponsors for their generosity.  Mary Fernandes, General Secretary of MAC gave an inspiring Vote of Thanks and applauded the efforts of the guests, our Spiritual Directors – Fr. Edwin D’Souza and Sr. Ferdinanda, and all the individuals who assisted in the success of the event.

The highlight of the Family Social was the amazing performance by a group of youngsters, Vinisha D’Souza, Clarissa D’Souza, Samantha Goveas and Savanna Goveas, who danced to popular songs.  The audience was enthralled as the youth displayed a confidence, agility and a lively spirit that had everyone swinging to the beat of the music.  The attractive door prizes and the raffle prizes allured the guests who rushed to buy tickets.  The lucky winners were thrilled and satisfied to win a GPS set, luggage set and many more gifts.  An array of midnight snacks was served followed by non-stop dancing.

MAC expresses its genuine gratitude to the guests who attended the Family Social despite commitments and busy schedules. MAC recognizes and appreciates the collaboration, support and assistance of the evenings' well-wishers and sponsors. MAC acknowledges and applauds the support, commitment and dedication of all its members and volunteers who worked hard to organize an event of this magnitude.

While such social events have been taking place all over the world by our minuscule manglorean konkani group spearheaded by our various cultural associations, it is really appreciating to note that we are creating space and scope to the youngsters and children, our future generation.
