60 foreign nationals detained for living illegally in GBN


Noida, Jul 11 (IANS): The Gautam Buddh Nagar police have detained 60 foreign nationals for allegedly living in the district on forged or expired documents, the police said on Wednesday, adding it was part of a drive to check visa and passports of citizens of African countries and their activities in the district under Operation Clean 10.

"We had received complaints about their involvement in illegal liquor and drug business. We had conducted a drive to identify them and check their documents. We checked 320 citizens of eight African countries. Passport and visas of around 260 people were found valid but 60 foreign citizens' documents were found questionable, incomplete or not available," said Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Noida, Vaibhav Krishna.

Police said of the 60 people detained, 32 are men and 28 women.

"These 60 foreign citizens have been taken into custody for questioning as we have noticed suspicious activities," said Krishna.

Necessary action is being taken against the detainees, the police said.
