427 school buses, vans face flak for poor safety


Greater Noida, Jul 11 (IANS): Police in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar district have acted against 427 school buses and vans and warned drivers of 702 buses which violated safety norms and traffic rules, police said on Thursday.

The 'Operation Clean 11' campaign was launched to check the safety of school children in school buses and vans.

"We have been getting a lot of complaints about school buses and vans being driven on the wrong side, putting the safety of children at stake," said a senior police officer.

Buses and vans which did not comply with safety standards or violated traffic rules were prosecuted. "We have collected fine amounts of Rs 26,700," the officer added.
