Shiv Sena MP says he ate 'ayurvedic chicken', demands it to be classified as vegetarian

New Delhi, Jul 20: Everyone in the Rajya Sabha (Upper House) was surprised on Monday by hearing an unusual demand made by an MP.

Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena MP requested the Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) to classify chicken and eggs as vegetarian. The lawmaker even asked for a budget of Rs 10,000 crore to conduct research on the subject.

The MP in the upper house said, "Once I had gone to a small village in Nandurbar region. The adivasi people came and served us food. When I asked them, what it was, they said, it was ayurvedic chicken. They also said that they take care of it in such a way that after eating you will get rid of all illness."

He also added that Chaudhary Charan Singh University is conducting research on Ayurvedic eggs.

While placing reasons for considering ‘chicken as ayurvedic food’ fit for the consumption of a vegetarian person, the MP said since the chicken is being fed ayurvedic food, the eggs layed by it can also be considered as ayurvedic.

    If meat is to be categorised on the basis of food consumed by animals or birds, then only mutton and beef qualify to be called as vegetarian since these animals strictly eat veg. Chickens feed on creatures like worms, insects, ants, fish, etc. anything that come on their way. How can it be called veggie or ayurvedic?

    Interesting - animal which eat veg must be classified as vegetarian..., there is chance for Hindustani Vegetarians an opportunity to eat beef...., (can be potentially called as putra jeevak meet, b'coz of its energy quotient in beef).

    No need to make fun of him. Our deshi chicken (gawti or naatri kori)definetly has some theraputic properties. Generally eaten in winter in maharshtra because it makes us feel warm..

    Most of of the Vegetarian Mahrashtrians cant live without chicken that too during the week-end!
    during the Jain festivities rule imposed to ban on any slaughtering, it is gradually increased from one to 3 days... and our Martahi Manoos are scared for these temporary ban, they cant sacrifice even for 1 day ! so make it legal trying to make chicken as vegitarian !

    We indians only aware in depth about ayurveda. More than 108 countries already recognised YOGA is good exercise to keep oneself fit..people even adopt it in there day to day life. We already invented a vehicle running on air..water and mixture of aluminium will last long for 1000 kms. We afraid much western countries will apply and force us for loyalty in exchange of hefty money.

    Good improvement. When you want to eat something, you twist the facts in any way favourable to you.

    Gradually, vegetarian cow's meat too will be given certificate as its meat is 'vegetarian'
