Vasco, Jul 23: Goa customs on Sunday apprehended three women from Tajikistan at the state airport when they were found to be carrying gold worth Rs 56 lac on person including innerwears, when they arrived in a flight via Dubai.
Commissioner of Customs, R Manohar told reporters that on Sunday July 21, the Air Customs officers of Goa headed by Deputy Commissioner, Raghvendra P apprehended three female international passengers of Tajikistan nationally who arrived from Dushanbe, Tajikistan via Dubai by Air India flight AI 994.
The personal search and baggage search of the passengers resulted in recovery of 1787 gram of assorted gold jewellery which was concealed in innerwears, hand baggage, purse and others.
The recovered gold jewellery is totally valued at Rs 56.38 lac, he said.
Manohar said that the gold jewellery has been seized under the provisions of Customs Act, 1962.
He said that since April, the Goa Air Customs has seized gold worth Rs 104.85 lac.
