Gadkari to present new motor bill, aims at reducing bogus driving licences

New Delhi, Jul 23: A motor vehicles ammendment bill will be soon introduced in parliament. Road Transport and Highways minister, Nitin Gadkari said that over 30 per cent of driving licenses issued were bogus and in order to monitor the issuance of the same, a bill consisting the necessary regulations will be presented soon.

The bill was formulated with a view to bring down rate of accidents. Further, there are provisions in the bill which will encourage people to help victims of accidents.

Gadkari stated that over 1.5 lac deaths take place annually due to road accidents, and with this new motor bill he plans to bring down the number. He recounted an incident in the past where he met with an accident because his driver had cataract. By the means of this example he tried to state that it was rather easy to get a license in India. He also condemned the behaviour of youngsters who indulge in dangerous bike stunts. Further, he stated that he is also looking forward to end the human intervention in issuance of license.

Gadkari, urged for increase in the amount of fines, as it would technically help in discouraging the violators. A bill in the past similar to now was passed by him as well, unfortunately, it remained stuck in Rajya Sabha.
