DCW writes to police over viral video of child assault

New Delhi, Jul 23 (IANS): Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal on Tuesday wrote to Delhi Police asking for investigation into a viral video showing an elderly man sexually assaulting a toddler.

Maliwal also shared the video on Twitter appealing to the people and the police to identify arrest the culprit. But later she deleted the clip after people criticised her for sharing such a video.

In the video, the elderly man was assaulting the child when people entered the room and made a video of the same.

Maliwal said stringent action should be taken in the matter.

"While the commission is unaware of the location of the incident, considering the seriousness of the matter a Zero FIR must be registered by Delhi Police urgently and investigation should be carried out immediately," said Maliwal.

She also sought an action taken report from the police by July 30.
