Panaji, Jul 24: By August 31, this year, eight stations in the state, on the South Western Railway (SWR) route will be provided with Wi-Fi services. The stations are Majorda, Kalay, Collem, Dabolim, Chandor, Cansaulim, Sancoale and Curchorem. These railway stations are among the 125 stations, the South Western Railway has targeted in the second phase of the project, this fiscal year.
A private entity is providing the Wi-Fi facility under Corporate Social Responsibility. According to SWR sources, government-owned RailTel, will be executing the architecture for commissioning the access points and out of 125 stations, 53 have already been commissioned. 92 stations will be covered under third phase, thus bringing each one under the Wi-Fi network.
In the first phase, out of 153 railway stations on SWR's route, 58 in Bengaluru division, 55 in Mysuru division and 40 in Hubballi division were provided with Wi-Fi facility. The free Wi-Fi service is being provided to railway passengers under the brand of RailTel’s retail broadband initiative, ‘RailWire’.
