Panaji, Jul 25: One of the most famous landmarks in the state, Kala Academy, designed by the legendary Charles Correa will soon lose its biggest performance space, the open-air auditorium. Culture minister and academy chairman Govind Gaude, said, “We have to demolish and reconstruct it."
Kala Academy has been closed to public over the past few weeks as it is considered 'fragile'. As reported in TOI, Gaude told the publication, “For the past nine to ten months, we have stopped accepting bookings for the open-air auditorium. Being from the government, some answers need to be stated in a concrete manner. As per my knowledge, KA’s open-air auditorium cannot be repaired or renovated.” the minister added.
Kala Academy has stood witness to some of Goa’s most memorable concerts. People have flocked in thousands to Kala Academy's large stone steps, to watch legends such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin, Louiz Banks, V Selvaganesh, U Srinivas to name a few.
