Blackmailing BJP MLA for Rs 3 crore sends journalist into custody

Gurugram, Jul 25: A journalist has been remanded for four days after it was found that he was blackmailing Gurugram BJP MLA, Umesh Aggarwal. The journalist has been identified as Vijay Shukla who runs a local newspaper and a web portal.

MLA Aggarwal, filed a complaint that Shukla was blackmailing him for Rs 3 crore, and if unpaid Shukla would publish news which would defame him.

MLA Aggarwal stated, that on July 20, Shukla claimed to have taken money from the opponents and threatened to defame Aggarwal by publishing 30,000 newspapers in Gurugram if he was not paid the extortion money.

Further the BJP leader said, "Shukla first made a demand for Rs 3 crore and then reduced the amount to Rs 2 crore. Finally he said he will take Rs 1.85 crore."

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mukesh Jakhar stated that the journalist is remanded for four days and an investigation in the same is underway.
