Panaji, Jul 26: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), in its new findings after monitoring St Inez creek in Panaji and Colva creek, has declared that the discharge of sewage water causes contamination of a majority of the state’s creeks.
GSPCB, while responding to TOI queries, said, “St Inez creek is contaminated mainly due to sewage. Aggravating the situation is the lack of adequate infrastructure maintenance, civic or otherwise and no periodic de-silting.”
It further added that the government should pay more attention to St Inez creek as an impaired water body. The negligence caused compromised and deteriorated water quality and depleted aquatic life and riparian vegetation, with altered stream channels.
