Himachal CM remembers Kargil war heroes


Shimla, Jul 26 (IANS): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Friday paid tributes to the heroes of the Kargil War by remembering their valour.

"Soldiers from Himachal have also played an important role in the Kargil war, the chief minister tweeted.

He posted photos of Kargil heroes Capt Vikram Batra and Capt Saurabh Kalia, both belonging to the state.

The Indian Army on Friday commemorated the 20th anniversary of the Kargil War.

India and Pakistan fought a limited war over the icy heights of Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir in May-July 1999. India took back all the positions that had been occupied by the Pakistani Army.

India lost 527 soldiers and Pakistan lost over 700 men.
