Shia Personal Law Board chairman Maulana Ashfaq dead


Lucknow, Jul 26 (IANS): The chairman of the All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB), Maulana Mirza Mohd Ashfaq passed away here on Friday.

The 80-year-old Maulana Ashfaq suffered a heart attack and was admitted to the Lari Cardiology Centre. He died around noon.

The burial will take place later in the day in Lucknow.

The Maulana was elected chairman of the AISPLB in April 2016. He was an eminent orator and headed the Persian department in the Shia PG college in Lucknow. He was the younger brother of the former AISPLB Chairman, Maulana Mirza Mohd Athar.

Maulana Ashfaq was to chair the annual meeting of the AISPLB which was scheduled to be held in Lucknow on Sunday. Sources said that the meeting is likely to be postponed now.
