Woman stabbed to death in south Delhi


New Delhi, Jul 27 (IANS): A woman was stabbed multiple times to death in public by a man in southeast Delhi's Bhogal area on Friday evening, the police said on Friday.

The incident took place around 7 p.m.

The woman and the accused were living in the same neighbourhood and were known to each other, police said.

"The accused has been arrested and case has been registered," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Chinmoy Biswal.

The deceased who was in her early 20's worked as a domestic help in Bhogal area and was returning home after completing her work.

When she was going towards her home, the accused met her near Bhogal bus stand following which an argument took place between them. The accused then attacked her multiple times with knife, a senior police officer said.

When the accused was trying to escape, the onlookers caught him and thrashed him, police said.

Both the victim and accused were rushed to AIIMS where the victim succumbed during treatment, police said, adding the condition of the accused is stated to be stable.

The woman stayed with her brother in Sarai Kale Kana. He works as a driver.

The woman's brother was also questioned in connection with the incident. He told the police he was not aware if the two had an affair.
