New Delhi, Jul 27: The Ministry Of Home affairs has approved the deployment of 10,000 additional troops of the paramilitary forces to Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen the counter-insurgency grid and maintain law and order situation in the state.
National Security advisor Ajit Doval was apparently camping in Srinagar since last four days and during his stay he held meetings with top security and intelligence officials. The decision to send the troops came after National Security Advisor Ajit Doval returned from his Kashmir trip. 100 additional contingents of security forces will be deployed out of which 50 will be from the CRPF, 10 from BSF, 30 from SSB and 10 from ITBP. Each contingent will have 100 soldiers and as per sources the troops are being airlifted from various parts of the country to Jammu and Kashmir.

As per the order issued by the Home Ministry the additional forces are being deployed to strengthen "counter insurgent grid" as well as maintaining law and order in Kashmir. Director General of Jammu and Kashmir police Dilbag Singh said "There are less troops in north Kashmir and that's why we need additional forces. 100 companies have been airlifted and that's what we had asked for," said Dilbag Singh. Recently, around 40,000 additional central paramilitary forces were brought in for Amarnath Yatra security.
The latest development however has not gone well with the top leaders in Jammu & Kashmir. Former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti Tweeted, “There is no dearth of security forces in Kashmir. J&K is a political problem which won’t be solved by military means. GOI needs to rethink & overhaul its policy.” The move has created fear psychosis among people, Mufti said.
Former Chief Minister and National Conference Vice-President, Omar Abdullah, said: “It’s surprising, to say the least, that instead of calming tempers and reassuring people in the Valley, a large section of the administration is busy trying to scare people to expect massive unrest and trouble after August 15.”
While there are rumours that the BJP government is likely to abolish Articles 370 and 35A within the first 100 days of its government, and the recent deployment is in that regard, Dilbag Singh said any other motive attributed to the troop induction is only speculation.
