Bantwal, Jul 28: Renowned writer Erya Lakshminarayana Alva passed away on Saturday, July 27.

He was 94. He is survived by wife and daughter.

Alva had won many awards for his literary contributions. He was conferred with the honoris clausa at the 30th convocation of Mangalore University in 2016.

He had penned many books on varied subjects. His book ‘Ramashwamedha Tarangagalu’ published in 1959 was a textbook for Madras and Mysore Universities. He was a critic and researcher too. He had published many books on the cultures and traditions of undivided Dakshina Kannada district.

He also wrote for many periodicals as a columnist.

He presided over many literary conventions in Bantwal, Mangaluru and Kasargod.

He was an educationist and social worker too. His contribution in educating the children of Bantwal area is noteworthy.

    TULUNADU lost a eldest son....Erya Lakshminarayana Alvas contribution to Tulu literature, history of Tulunadu is enormous . He lead the Tulu culture in all aspect and a fatherly figure to the society,may his soul RIP.and condolences to his family

    Erya Alva left behind us a enormous responsibility of preserving a rich cultural heritage which he always stood in altimes..For Tulu folks / Bhutaradane ,Temple culture his immense works will seen a high point in Tulunadu history. we Salute him...
