Counter-terrorism, narcotics main priorities: Punjab DGP


Chandigarh Jul 28 (IANS): Prevention of terrorism and the continued drive against drugs were the main priorities of the Punjab Police, Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta said on Saturday.

At a high-level meeting here, he directed the field officers to work towards eradication of the drug menace in coordination and synergy with the Special Task Force.

He detailed a drug strategy and action plan and asked the officers to focus on arrests of narcotic smugglers, suppliers and on drug recoveries.

Gupta also directed the officials to carry out operations against drug peddlers at specific identified hotspots in both urban and rural areas.

During the meeting, Additional Director General Harpreet Singh Sidhu asked senior field officers to take strong action against the drug smugglers by holding the station house officers accountable for control of drug supply in their jurisdiction and breaking the supply chain.

He asked them to focus on street level peddling and also suggested deployment of police officials up to village level.
