More couples seek police protection in Uttar Pradesh


Moradabad, Jul 28 (IANS): After the controversy over the Bareilly couple Sakshi and Ajitesh, it is now two more newly married couples who have sought police protection in Uttar Pradesh.

A viral video has surfaced on social media in which a newly married couple has sought police protection, claiming threats from the bride's family, police said.

The bride Mehraj is seen saying that she married Mashook Ali out of her own free will but her family is now threatening the couple as well as her husband's family.

Moradabad SP (City) Ankit Mittal said that the woman's father had registered a case of his daughter's kidnapping and the police were trying to confirm the age of the girl as well as the boy.

"We will provide police protection if their claims are found to be true," he added.

In another similar case, a newly married girl has uploaded a video on social media claiming that her family was threatening her husband and his family.

SSP Badaun Ashok Tripathi said that the matter is being investigated and the police is trying to contact the couple.
