Al Ain, Jul 28: A 2017 case when a resident shot a man to death inside a mosque in Al Ain has been now given a death sentence by The Abu Dhabi Cassation Court. The accused was a 30-year-old GCC national who was found guilty of premeditated murder, and several other charges.
The accused apparently stalked the victim from his house, stood near the door of the mosque, and lingered around until the victim was all alone. Although, the accused fled the scene after committing the crime, he soon surrendered at a police station in Al Ain city.
When an inquiry was held it was found that the accused pulled the trigger out of sheer revenge, caused by previous family issues. The weapon used for the murder was found to have been illegally obtained by the accused.
The prosecutors charged the accused with premeditated murder, illegal possession of firearm, and possession and abuse of psychotropic substances. Further, he was charged with abuse of Islamic rituals and places of worship.
