17 kg acid used in making heroin seized in Bengal, two arrested


Kolkata, Jul 29 (IANS): The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized more than 17 kg of Acetic Anhydride, used to prepare heroin, during a raid in West Bengal and arrested two persons in connection with it, a NCB official said on Monday.

The NCB officials conducted a raid at the house of Md. Tahirul Islam, a resident of Bansgara area of Murshidabad district, during the intervening night of July 27-28.

"Acetic Anhydride, weighing 17.140 kg, was seized from Islam's residence. He was arrested for keeping illegal narcotic material used in preparing heroin," the official said.

During interrogation, Islam disclosed the name of the original owner of the seized consignment following which a team of the NCB arrested Md. Shaiful Islam from Lalgola on the same night.

The seized narcotic material costs around Rs 40,000-50,000 per litre, the NCB said.
