Mangaluru, Jul 29: To mark the 20th anniversary of 'Kargil Vijay Divas', a programme was held at Sharada Degree College, Devinagara at Haridas mandir on July 29.

A series of programmes were held to commemorate the event.

Thejas Bangera, student council president was the chief speaker of the day. His speech highlighted 'India never invaded other countries or waged war. This is not because our armed forces or leaders are not capable of doing it, but it is the culture, discipline and moral of our military'.

All the office bearers of the student council along with all the class representatives lit the lamp as a symbol of victory flame and were placed around the Indian map which was decorated with flowers. This gesture represented a sense of responsibility and leadership towards the nation.

A group of students sang a group song which instilled a sense of patriotism. A creative video was presented by the students which brought out the story of Kargil days – The journey, the struggle and the pain and more importantly emphatic victory.

Dr Kabbinale Balakrishna Bharadwaj, principal of the college gave a keynote of the event. He said, “It is necessary to remember our motherland more often and more so we have to remember our soldiers who protect and safeguard our land. ‘Kargil Vijay Divas’ is not just a story to be remembered and forgotten, but it should constantly churn our blood toward patriotism. There is greater need for the youngsters to take up military as a vocation."
