Goa: State government invokes ESMA to prohibit strike in transport services

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji (SR)

Panaji, Jul 31: The state government has issued a directive on July 29, invoking the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), to prohibit strike in any form in all transport services for the carriage of passengers or goods by land or water, with immediate effect.

As reported in TOI, the order will be valid for a period of six months from date of issue. This new directive comes in the backdrop of taxi unions issuing warnings in the past, of going on indefinite strike, demanding closure of the app-based taxi service GoaMiles.

The union leaders however called off the strike after getting assurance from the CM that their demands would be considered.
