President Kovind gives assent to Triple Talaq Bill

New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS): President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday gave his assent to the Triple Talaq Bill, making the practice of giving instant triple talaq orally a criminal offence with provisions of a jail term of up to three years.

The Triple Talaq Bill or Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 which prohibits divorce by pronouncing "talaq" thrice in one occasion by their husbands was passed by both houses of Parliament.

It was passed by the Lok Sabha on July 25 despite the opposition's demand for its scrutiny by a Standing Committee.

Subsequently, it was passed by the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, with the government mustering numbers for its smooth sailing in the Upper House where it still lacks majority support.

    any Muslims know that instant triple talaq is not given one time and talaq will be given by installments only after various occasion of consolation.
    This should be followed by all religion to give time for your marriage instead of giving divorce immediately. Government of BJP is trying hard to make Muslim youth to put behind bar and suffer their rest of life and appeasing women telling them they have achieved and gave something which favor you. But reality is BJP and RSS want Muslims to suffer

    BJP succeeded in destroying the good work of Honourable Supreme Court which banned Instant Triple talak and kept the marriage continue . But the bill by BJP made sure that three years jail to the husband would keep the wife penniless and husband will come from jail after three years fully broke .
    Muslim women should approach to the Honourable Supreme Court against this double edged sword law against them .
