Daijiworld Media Network - Abu Dhabi (OD/GA)

Abu Dhabi, Jun 11: Clifford Aranha – a much admired  teacher at the Abu Dhabi Indian School died suddenly at the School premises on Thursday June 11 morning.

Clifford attended the school as usual and as he was entering the staff room suddenly collapsed and died after suffering a massive heart attack.  Though attempts were made to revive him, they were not fruitful and he breathed his last.

Aranha, an English teacher was with the school since 1987 and was one of the most lovable teachers at the school, always jovial and mingled with the students as well as with his colleagues freely.

Clifford hails originally from Mulki/Urva, Mangalore and leaves behind his wife Charlotte and only son Roshan and daughter-in-law Priya.

With his death Abu Dhabi Indian School and the entire Indian community in Abu Dhabi has lost a great teacher and wonderful human being.

Memorial Service in Abu Dhabi

A Memorial Service with Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul will be held at 8 pm on Saturday 13 June, 2009 at St. Josephs' Cathedral - Abu Dhabi.

I was searching for my old teachers on the internet today when I googled 'Clifford Aranha' to find news of a dear English teacher I had at ADIS 19 years ago. The links that opened up against his name told me that I was a year too late in tracing pillars of my past. Sure, everything is bound to pass, to fade, to die away but memories live on where character and a future have been cast. In my case, men like Clifford Aranah and Henry Noronah who laid the foundations of my English in ADIS so long ago make up those undying memories as long as I write in English. May the Almighty grant strength to the family of the departed soul the very memory of whose unforgettable classes now brings a nostalgia tinged with grief for not having seen and talked to him yet another time.

He was our favorite Teacher starting from 9th class to 12Class. A legend to all of us. Someone whom we could count on and talk to as a friend. I speak English today because of him. May the Almighty God fill the hearts of his family and those in sorrow with peace from above.

Aranha Sir, He was a man who treated Adolescent boys as Men, when all of us were rediculed and found fault with we always knew there was one arm who would comfort us always. My intereaction with him though limited, wiLl always be cherished. A man who beleived that humour and laughter was the best way to teach and impart education. His simplicity and down to earth personality sure did make him a just another student of ADIS every time he walked into the class. Sir, ADIS will find it difficult to fill up your void. All of us will miss you. Colin M. D''souza Class of 2002

It''s sad to hear about Mr. Aranha''s death. He was not only my teacher, a friend as well. Nothing was tough when he taught with his very jovial nature. Abu Dhabi Indian School has lost a gem. May his soul rest in peace. Heartfelt Condolence to his family.

My deepest condolence to the English teacher of the ADIS Mr. Clifford Aranha was a man of the great integrity. I believe that the past will judge him against his good efforts to maintain peace and his humanitarian works. May Jesus grant his mercy for the soul of Aranha and his family the strength to bear their loss.

We were neighbours in Urwa, and i have known Mr Aranha since i was a child. His sister was my teacher at Ladyhill convent and i will always remember him as a wonderful person gifted with immense wit. He had a tremendous sense of humour.

I also remember him as an excellent actor when he played the role of Tippu Sultan in a drama at the centenary celebrations of St Aloysius Higher primary school Urwa. I am sure that the entire student community at Abu Dhabi Indian school will miss this popular and talented teacher. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may the Lord grant his family the strength to bear their loss.

I remember Sir Clifford Aranha who taught me English when I was studying in Kulur High School where he was also the Headmaster. All my memories at the school are revived. He was a wonderful teacher who cared for meticulous details of English. Really sad to hear about his loss. May God give peace to his soul.
