Mythologicals have better roles for male TV actors: Himanshu

Lucknow, Aug 3 (IANS) Actor Himanshu Soni, who plays Lord Ram in the upcoming mythological show "Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush", says that he finds more interesting roles in the genre than in regular social drama on television.

"I am more interested to play a lead in a mythological show rather than in a regular social show because, as a male actor, I find meatier roles in mythology. I do not think I will get typecast doing that because each historical characters are different," Himanshu told IANS, adding: "With the kind of TV content happening these days, there are a lot more strong female characters than male, because there are more women-oriented stories happening."

Earlier, he played mythological characters in shows such as "Neeli Chatri Waale", "Radha Krishna" and "Ramayana", among other shows in the genre.

"Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush" features Krish Chauhan and Harshit Kabra as Luv and Kush along with Shivya Pathania and Himanshu Soni as Siya and Ram respectively.

The show narrates how Luv and Kush make their parents, Ram and Sita, meet after Sita is sent to exile.

According to Himanshu, he tends to detached himself from a character after living it for long.

"I think after a point, we have to detach from the character we are playing because in a TV show, we live the character for the longest. When I was playing Buddha, I thought for a moment that I should leave my house and regular life and live a different life. Of course that moment happened only because of the hangover of the character," he shared.

This is not the first time that an actor is playing Ram on screen. Did he watch the performance of television's original Ram, played by Arun Govil, to prepare for the role?.

"I did not watch the original 'Ramayana' for reference. I have been hearing the story of Ram since childhood, so I already have an image of Ram in my mind. So, the way I build the character is wholly based on my imagination and the script. I did not watch the old 'Ramayana' to avoid being influenced as an actor.

"Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush" airs from August 5 on Colors TV.
