Unnao rape: CBI searches properties of Kuldeep Sengar, others

New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS): The CBI on Sunday searched properties belonging to Kuldeep Singh Sengar and the other accused in the Unnao rape case.

Sengar, the expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Unnao, is the main accused in the case. He is currently lodged in Sitapur district jail in Uttar Pradesh.

The Central Bureau of Investigation teams searched properties belonging to him and the other accused in the case in Lucknow, Unnao, Banda, Fatehpur districts.

The case relates to the rape of a minor girl allegedly by Sengar at his residence in Unnao on June 4, 2017, when she had gone to seek a job.

The Supreme Court had on Thursday ordered transfer of all cases relating to the Unnao rape to Delhi.

A day after the CBI questioned expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape case, the agency on Sunday said it searched over a dozen places in four districts in Uttar Pradesh including the residences of Sengar and others.

A senior Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official in Delhi told IANS: "The CBI is conducting searches in Lucknow, Unnao, Banda and Fatehpur, at some locations in the premises of the accused and others in the case."

A CBI team on Saturday questioned Sengar at Sitapur jail, where he has been lodged for over a year.

According to CBI sources in Lucknow, the agency had also collected the details of people who met Sengar in the prison.

Following the outrage over the July 28 road accident that has left the Unnao rape victim and her lawyer battling for life and which killed two of her family members, the BJP expelled Sengar from the party.
