VHP planning to take out 500 processions in WB on Janmashtami

Kolkata, Aug 5 (IANS): The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) is planning to take out 500 processions at more than 1,500 locations in West Bengal as part of its efforts to celebrate Janmashtami, the birth of Lord Krishna, later this month.

The three-day celebrations will be held from August 23 to 25 across the state, VHP state unit spokesperson Sourish Mukherjee told IANS.

Janmashtami, one of the most auspicious Hindu festivals, falls on August 24.

"We will organise 'puja' at over 1,500 places. This is more than double the figure last year when the religious rituals were held at 700 locations," said Mukherjee.

As against the 200 processions brought out last year, this time the number would go up to 500.

The focus will be on the villages this time, according to the spokesperson.

"Our functionaries will fan out from village to village. The festival has been organised to unite the Hindu 'samaj' (society) irrespective of economic, political differences.

"This festival is important for the VHP from the viewpoint of expanding and strengthening the organisation and ensuring security of the next generation," said Mukherjee.

The VHP decided to celebrate the occasion in a more high profile manner than the previous years also because of the "prevailing situation in Bengal".

"There is so much of minority appeasemet, and jihadi attacks. We will also highlight the impact of infiltration from across the border," the spokesperson said.

The VHP has drawn up an elaborate programme that includes bringing out processions, organising religious meetings and cultural functions.

"At every venue boys and girls will take part in the festivities dressed like Lord Krishna.A There will be competitions on colouring the lord's picture, devotional songs will be rendered. Well decorated tableaux will also Abe taken out," Mukherjee added.

It is utter madness. When there is so much rape, child deaths, aged people getting murdered, lack of security, etc. going on in the country. These useless people are thinking of processions. Do good, people will definitely remember and vote for you.

Take 5000 or 50000 peocessions...but please provide permanent jobs to these demonstrators also. The country is reeling with unemployment; fall in real estate, construction, automobile sector, and share market performance, also foreign institutional investors are retracting their Indian investments, while the common man is only interested in hindutva politics thanks to political brainwashing.
