BCI hails decision to scrap Article 370


New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS): The Bar Council of India (BCI), here on Monday, welcomed the government proposal to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution, which allowed special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and split it into Union Territories.

While Jammu and Kashmir will have a legislature, Ladakh will be without legislature.

"The BCI whole heartedly congratulates the government on the historic and landmark decision to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution," BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said. He described the step as a bold, magnetic, daring and unparalleled.

"This step is a clear proof of the wisdom, foresightedness, dynamism and courage of our Prime Minister," he said adding the nation will remember Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for all times to come.

The debt of our forefathers, leaders and common man who had lost their lives fighting for this cause had been repaid today, he added.
