Panaji, Aug 6: The incessant rains continued hitting the state with Flooding were reported in low lying areas of the state, while several families were evacuated from North Goa’s Bicholim taluka when their houses were inundated.

Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday night visited the villages that have been facing flooding in North Goa. The incessant rains have continued in the state for last seven days with Indian Meteorological Department issuing ‘orange alert’ asking people to be prepared.

Ten people from North Goa’s Pilgao village were rescued by Disaster Management Forces last night after their homes were flooded. Sources stated that Mandovi river also crossed its mark flooding the villages in Sattari taluka of North Goa.

The chief minister on Monday night visited Amona and Sankhalim village in his assembly constituency to see the flood-like situation that they have been facing.

Some families from these villages have also been asked to move to safer location, a senior government official said.

IMD had issued orange alert for the state forecasting that at several places heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in North and South Goa.

The fishermen are advised not to venture in the sea, though the state fisheries department has lifted the ban on fishing in the state from August 01 onwards. The department has predicted strong winds with speed reaching 45-50 kilometres per hour gusting to 65 KMPH likely to prevail along and off Maharashtra-Goa coast during next two days from Monday.
