Imran dials Johnson, MBS; Qureshi to visit Beijing

Islamabad, Aug 8 (IANS): Pakistan on Wednesday continued its efforts to win diplomatic support for its stance against India's move to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, with Prime Minister Imran Khan reaching out to Britain and Saudi Arabia, while Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi is to leave for Beijing to discuss further steps in countering India.

Imran Khan, who had dialled his Malaysian counterpart Mahathir Mohamad and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday to convey Pakistan's condemnation of India's move, on Wednesday spoke over phone with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Khan briefed Johnson about the Indian move to end the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to details, both the leaders agreed that the issue needs to be resolved through dialogue.

In his talk with the Saudi Crown Prince, the two leaders "discussed the development of the situation in the region and efforts exerted towards it," the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said.

"HRH the Crown Prince was also briefed by the Pakistani Prime Minister on the latest developments in Kashmir," it said.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Qureshi said he might leave for Beijing to consult with the Chinese leadership on how to proceed further after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government's move in Kashmir.

He made the remarks in a joint session of Parliament called to discuss India revoking special status for Jammu and Kashmir.

Qureshi said that he might "dash off to Beijing."

China on Tuesday sided with all-weather friend Pakistan in voicing "serious concern" over the Kashmir situation and backed Islamabad's position in stating that Kashmir is "a legacy of history between India and Pakistan". Beijing also said that New Delhi should avoid actions to "unilaterally change the status quo", and termed the decision to reorganise Ladakh as a Union territory as "unacceptable"

Qureshi also refuted the opposition's claims that the Imran Khan government was caught off guard by the the Indian government's actions.

    We Indians know after LS elections, Cong has been wiped out everywhere. Last month Cong was booted out of Ktaka. The party does not have a president. More than half of the Cong leaders are with Govt on A370 scrapping throwing signals of a possible fall out.. Pappu fans do not know where to go now , hardly anyone left. Congress party's affairs to be handed over to Priyanka Vadra's kids.(?)

    there will be no perfect time than this to remove A370 and settle JK for once for all..UN became rubber stamp..US wants to curtain china in region so it needs India badly, China eventhough has issues with India , it had problems with US.. india is largest trade partner, china wont take drastic step..UAE supported already..due to sanction KSA became largest oil seller to India, can we expect them dictate us when ME under financial down turn!!..by the way, there r many in india who are opposing MODI govt JK step, but they should know that JK enjoyed prevlige, we pumped billions, are they living peacefully or others!..are they stopped patronising separtist terrorist, is killing ended..if not lets try otherway..anyway it wont be worse than earlier..

    Saudi Arabia sacks pakistani holder of MD/MS degrees. Other arab countries to follow. Emirates welcomed move by scrapping of article 370 and 35A mentioning its integral matter of India. Only malaysia and turkey standing with pak. America looking for base in asean region to install it's missiles due to conflict with russia and china.

    Pakistani Doctors, MDs & MSs have nothing to do with Saudi politics. It is just quality issue for wealthy nation.

    Pakistan Diplomats have well established better diplomatic relations with UK & UK has well established generous Pakistani population in UK politics and business.

    China, USA & Saudi has time tested age old relations with Pakistani Armed forces. If China wants it has the ability to bring India to its knees economically & annexing parts of North Kashmir, Ladakh & North East States like Arunachal Pradesh. So Do not under estimate Pakistan & it's Friends..
