Bengaluru, Aug 8: The Puttenahalli police here have arrested a man in connection with the suicide committed by his wife after killing her seven-year-old daughter by tossing her down from the family's apartment. He has been accused of abetting the suicide by harassing his wife.

The arrested accused happens to be Pankaj (40), resident of RBI Layout at Puttenahalli. His wife, Jyoti Aggarwal, had thrown her seven-year-old daughter down from the 20th floor of their apartment and then ended her life by jumping down from the building.

Jyoti, who was a model by profession, had created a selfie video before ending her life, in which she said that her husband had repeatedly expressed suspicion about her character. She said that unable to bear his routine harassment on this basis, she had decided to end lives of herself and her daughter. After watching the video, Jyoti's brother, Prashanth, had filed a complaint with the police, based on which Puttenahalli police arrested Pankaj and began investigation, said deputy commissioner of police, Rohini Katoch.

Jyoti, who was a native of Rajasthan, and Pankaj had loved each other and married 12 years back. Pankaj is running a hardware shop near Jayanagar while Jyoti was attending dane classes. The couple lived in the 20th floor of their apartment in RBI Layout. Pankaj not only suspected his wife's character, but also forced Jyoti not to attend dance classes, but she had not followed his advice.

On August 4, another confrontation happened between the couple after which Pankaj left his home in an angry mood and began to stay in a lodge at Jayanagar. The police said that Jyoti, in the video, said that repeated counselling with husband had failed to have any impact on his suspecting character. She clarified that she had decided to take her daughter along for the fear that she might become orphaned.
