Maharashtra artist to show region's geography in abstract

New Delhi, Aug 8 (IANS): The geography of Maharashtra's innermost villages, full of earthy colours and rocky landscapes, has inspired a Mumbai-based artist to make multi-hued, abstract paintings.

Born in one such small town of Maharashtra - Latur, Uttam Chapte will showcase his abstract art at the Triveni Kala Sangam here from August 12 to 21.

The solo exhibition 'Indelible Mark' draws inspiration from textured rocks one finds at the sea-side or by the river banks, the 1969-born artist told IANS. "When water hits these rocks, they get marked indelibly, and form an abstract grammar of art," he said.

Done in acrylic, Chapte's works resemble splashes of colour on canvas, and abstract memories of his homeland.
