Sangli (Maharashtra), Aug 8 (IANS): At least nine persons were drowned on Thursday when a rescue boat in which they were sailing capsized at Brahmnal village in Maharashtra's Sangli district, an official said.
Konkan Division Commissioner Deepak Mhaiskar said that the boat was carrying around 30 villagers when the tragedy occurred.
A search is on for at least another 16 people who are still missing and are feared drowned.
It was not immediately clear whether the ill-fated boat was overloaded and belonged to any of the official rescue agencies or a private party engaged in rescue operations in the flood-hit Sangli.
