Cyclist Enric Mas signs three-year contract with Movistar

Madrid, Aug 8 (IANS): Clyclist Enric Mas has signed a three-year contract with Movistar, the Spanish WorldTour squad announced on Thursday.

The 24-year-old Spaniard, who debuted in the 2019 Tour de France, joined Movistar from Belgian team Deceuninck-Quick Step.

"Mas' arrival to the Movistar Team unites the most renowned Spanish team at the Grand Tours in history with the country's best hope for stage races," Movistar said in a statement.

The Balearic Islands native put on a strong performance at the Tour de France while wearing the white jersey as leader of the Young Riders' competition, Efe news reported.

He was also placed second in the 2018 Vuelta a Espana, which is his greatest career achievement to-date.

Mas was trained in the ranks of the Alberto Contador Foundation until 2015, when he moved to the Deceuninck-Quick Step.
