Dream of Sardar, Mookerjee, Vajpayee fulfilled: Modi

New Delhi, Aug 8 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asserted that the dream of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, B.R. Ambedkar, Syama Prasad Mookerjee and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajapyee has been fulfilled by abrogating the Constitution's Article 370, giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

In his address to the nation, the Prime Minister said: "Like one family, one nation - we have taken a historic decision on Jammu and Kashmir. Such a system, due to which the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were deprived of many rights, which was a major obstacle in their development, have now gone away.

"The dream of Sardar Patel, Baba Ambedkar, Shyama Prasad Mookerjee and Atal Bihari Vajpayee and crores of patriots have been fulfilled."

The Prime Minister said that the some things in society and life get so mixed with time that many times, these things are considered permanent.

"It is understood that nothing will change, it will work like this. There was a similar sentiment with Article 370. There was no discussion about the loss of our people in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Surprisingly, if we talk to anyone, no one could even tell what was the benefit of Article 370 in the lives of the people of Jammu and Kashmir," he said.

Until September 13, 1947, India’s first deputy prime minister Vallabhbhai Patel was fine if Kashmir went to Pakistan – as long as Hyderabad came to India. Patel wanted Hyderabad for India, not Kashmir – but Junagadh was the wild card that changed the game
Vallabhbhai Patel had not forgotten, amidst the communal madness, the three apples missing from his sack – Hyderabad, Kashmir and Junagadh. An area of 82,000 square miles making it the largest of the princely states, Hyderabad possessed a population of 16 million (of whom 85% were Hindu), its own coinage and paper currency and a Muslim ruler styled “His Exalted Highness”. Muslims controlled the army and the public services. Britain had refused to consider the Nizam’s plea for Dominion status but, largely on Mountbatten’s urging, Vallabhbhai had granted Hyderabad three months’ grace after August 15 for deciding on accession. No other state had been given such a concession, but Patel had instinctively realised that he would obtain Hyderabad last. “I am striving for Hyderabad,” he had written Gandhi on August 30. “It will take time.”

Evidently, Patel even said that “if the Ruler felt that his and his state’s interest lay in accession to Pakistan, he would not stand in his way”.

Whether it was the adversarial stance of Advani and Geelani that derailed the summit or whether it was Vajpayee’s mistrust of Musharraf, since the Kargil War took place just months after his Lahore Bus Yatra, the two-day Agra Summit ended in failure and Musharraf flew back to Islamabad without an agreement being signed.

Modiji may be 'Entire political science' student, but hardly knows the real fact of the nation.
Sardar Patel was adamant, give Kashmir to Pakistan, take Hyderabad but it was Nehru saved it.

History remembers the Agra Summit as one of the greatest missed opportunities of India-Pakistan relations during Musharraf-Vajpayee. It is LK Advani has to be blamed.
