Mangaluru, Aug 9: Fresher's Day-2019, an orientation programme for first year BE and BArch students was held on August 8 at Srinivas Institute of Technology, here. The function was presided over by CA A Raghavendra Rao, chancellor of Srinivas University and president of A Shama Rao Foundation.
Dr A Srinivas Rao, pro-chancellor of Srinivas University and vice president of A Shama Rao Foundation, Vijayalakshmi R Rao, director Srinivas Group of Colleges, Mangaluru and Mitra S Rao, secretary of A Shama Rao Foundation were the guests of honour.
CA A Raghvendra Rao, in his presidential address adviced the newly inducted engineering students and their parents that students must love their subjects, master the language, build a strong educational foundation during the four years of Engineering study and strive hard to climb up the ladder of success. He also emphasised the need for taking guidance from faculty members and parents in order to be successful in their career.
Dr A Srinivas Rao, in his address to the newly inducted engineering students and their parents said that technology keeps changing and will happen with good engineers. The institution encourages the students to invent good projects during the course of their Engineering study. Parents should be in constant touch with various faculty to know the progress of their ward.
Vijayalakshmi R Rao adviced the students to work hard to bring a good name to the institution. Mitra S Rao appealed to the students to be aware of their surroundings and to select the right kind of friends. She also adviced them to have passion for new things without harming nature.
Dr Shrinivas Mayya D, principal, Srinivas Institute of Technology, while welcoming the freshers, presented a bird’s eye view of the rapid growth of the institute since 2006. He explained the facilities and opportunities made available in the institute to the students along with rules and regulations of Visvesvaraya Technological University. He listed various achievements of the students of SIT at university level.
Prof Jayaram Thumbe delivered a lecture on 'Engineering - Success path'.
The programme commenced with an invocation by Jyothi, Khrushitha and Purvi of third year BE and Dr Shivakumar G S, head of Computer Science Engineering welcomed the gathering. Senior students shared their experiences in the college, while the newly joined students and their parents expressed their aims and expectations from the institute.
Prof Anant Kumar Kulkarni, convenor of the programme proposed the vote of thanks.
Dr Ambika Malyya and Delrin D'Mello anchored the programme.
