Kolhapur, Aug 9: For several days now, rains continue to pour down in several parts of the country. Kolhapur in Maharashtra, is witnessing one such case of natural disaster where the city has been flooded for days causing thousands of homes getting destroyed.

The city has majorly submerged in water and in images it can be observed that most of the buildings have gone under, with only roofs popping out, including the flyover, where half of the flyover is underwater. This is caused by the Panchganga river that has overflown into the city.

It has been estimated that over 3,800 homes have been destroyed and several others have been evacuated by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). According to experts, the continuous rainfall will further aggravate the situation and at least two days are required for the situation to stabilize.

The navy has also been deployed to help out in the rescue operation. Over two lac people have been taken to safety from across Maharashtra by rescue teams. The chief minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday evaluated the extent of damages via aerial survey of Sangli and Kolhapur.
