Rajasthan police use Mughal-E-Azam movie dialogue to warn about honor killing

Daijiworld Media Network - Jaipur (SHP)

Jaipur, Aug 10: The official Twitter handle of Rajasthan Police is gaining a lot of fandom. The social media handle is filled with witty tweets with infusion of Hindi movie dialogues. The use of one of the movie quotes from the classic Hindi movie Mughal-E-Azam has taken twitter by storm.

The tweet meant to caution people regarding a law passed against honor killing read: Careful, the era of Mughal-E-Azam has gone. If you hurt or try to hurt a couple, then the Rajasthan government, under #HonorKilling Bill 2019, can sentence you to life in jail or even death, in addition to a fine of Rs 5 lac, because to love is not
a crime.”

Maruti Joshi, additional SP and head of Rajasthan police's media team said, "Pyar kiya toh darna kya (why fear falling in love), is a dialogue we all know, we decided to use this dialogue to express the law on social media to get noticed. If we had published a black-and-white article on the new law, nobody would have noticed it, but this has created a buzz."

"We want to spread the message in a light-hearted way, without causing hurt or pain," LB Soni, ADG Crime, said.

Apart from Rajasthan police, Mumbai police is considered to be a pioneer in this field. They have been well-known for addressing several issues with a pinch of humour, ranging from creating awareness of substance abuse, over rescue operations during water logging situations in the city caused by monsoon. They are also renowned for sharing memes on traffic-related problems, where they voice out the issue of not wearing helmets.

Honor killings is one of the major evil issues in the society mainly rooted from centuries in Haryan, Rajasthan U. P under the influence of Khap Panchayath. This need to be eliminated through strict laws. We haven't seen any debates in mainstream media over such subjects to educate the conservative families which is need of time when new provisions are getting passed over TT.
